WAINWRIGHT. WEDNESDAY’ JANUARY 2nd, 1946
THE YEAR THAT Is NEW. ;
(a message to our readers)
Dear Reader . aR, As we look out into the future we see an intangible something looming toward us, That something is the year 1946 ,a strange
a year that will bring 365 days of renewed life, faith and
ope.
. Standing on the threshold of-this new F pees. one cannot help but think back these past 12 months, and try to analyse them, and break them down into smaller periods of time, into events that took place, to acquire their proper perspective.
In the year 1945 many events have taken place, which will make the student of 1 think that we had a tough, but for- tunate year. The successful conclusion of a 6 year war, was one of the mgst important features, along with the dawn of a new era, calla the atomic age. :
Not to'be forgotten, is the trouble that loomed large on the labor front, in which there were strikes, walkouts, and other
facts that tended to make a troublesome year, of 1945,
It-is sometimes pure fun, to look back into time and make the remarks about this or that, but as a well known saying goes, Time Marches On, and in that vein we must live for the hap- penings of a new year, which will bring untold surprises to some peoplé, deep'sadness, to others, and great joy to still oth- ers ; ; .
The-year 1946 will be the oportunity that many of us have hoped and prayed for. It-wilt be the year in which we will test the theory, that men can live together in a peaceful world; and let us hope that the fact that men must kill and maim one an- other to survive will just be a horrible memory.
Surely, with the terrible experience that we have all been thru during the past six years, as an examplé, man hy now has learn:
-ed the lesson that wars settle nothing, but prolong the issue
and make matters worse. ‘» One thing that we should heat in mind during the next 12 months, is the fact, and simple saying, Work for what is right, not who is right. If we can all make this our New Year's pledge, there will not be many things wrong with the old world after all. '
As to the. forgoing, it would seem proper at this time to bring the name of Wainwright into the story.
Many a person will hear bits of conversation, to the effect that Wainwright should not dé this or that or it should do some thing else. Is that the proper attitude, when it is a matter of what is right, not who is right?. With the citizens and town of- ficials working hard, it should be a bang-up year for the people of our town and countryside.
Two big things are slated for this year in Wainwright. One is the proposed water and sewage system, and the other is'the Peace Memorial Centre. Either of which will be a living tribute to the meiyan women whfo endured the hardships of war dur- ity our great struggle. , ty
Both these projects deserve the wholehearted support of ev- ery person in our town and district, but that of course would be too much to expect . No doubt, you already know of at least one person that is ‘‘out to buch it’’, as the saying goes, and so the year will have its blemishes just as the vears before have had. Again, is that the attitude, in what is right not who is right?
_Our meaning we hope is clear.
Also the year 1946, will see most of our boys and girls home from‘tlie war, with perplexing problems on their minds
It will be our duty, as well as our privelege to make this dist rict a wanted place in the hopes and hearts of our returning per sonnel,-True, some of our service members are back with us al- ready, some are staying with us, some have moved from our locality to seek their fortune elsewhere, To all members of the forces, thé Wainwyight.Star extends good wishes, and good luck in whatever venture that you, are to follow. ‘
In colsing we would also like to thank our many. patrons and friends for their loyal suport during the past months. To the ad- vertisers, that have made it financially possible to produce the paper; the correspondends that have. created interest to our country readers, the story writers that have given us their sup- port by recording the eveiits of their lodges, meetings, gather- ings,-ete, and !st, hut by ro means least our readers who have made us feel that all our efforts have not been in vain, we would like to wish you all,
A VERY HAPPY NEW YEAR
